What can I do if barking foxes disturb my sleep?
Unfortunately, there is no easy remedy to barking foxes. On the other hand, the barking is usually limited to the period from December to February, the mating season for foxes. Even then, their cries are only heard during a few nights. This means the noise is only a nuisance for a very limited time.

Although foxes possess a large repertoire of cries they are fairly quiet for most of the year. You need not be afraid of continual noisy disturbance. Barking – Screaming – Warning Fox calls can be divided into two categories: contact calls and calls in conflict situations. Barking belongs to the contact calls, intended to indicate where a fox is. During the mating season two foxes often call whilst approaching each other. The so-called screaming a penetrating, shrill kind of shrieking, can be heard when foxes are fighting. These cries can be heard all year round but most frequently in the mating season, for example, when rival dog foxes come too close. Another call, just as loud, penetrating and also rather weird, is the elongated, monosyllabic cry of vixens warning their cubs of danger. This call may occasionally be heard from April to July.
